Welcome to Home Guy Adventures!

Whether it’s fun days out, practical hacks around the house, or experiences with parenting strategies that worked — and some that didn’t — you’ll find the things that make family life just that little bit more enjoyable.

About Home Guy Adventures

My name is Maarten (that’s a Dutch name, we’re from the Netherlands), and I’ve been happily together with Lisan since 2009. In 2016, I became the proud dad of our son Mikke, followed by our daughter Pleun in 2019.

Becoming a dad was something I was incredibly proud of, but I also found it quite a change. And to be fair, I still do. Parenthood is probably the biggest change I’ve ever experienced in my life. Not just becoming a parent itself, but everything around it that changes too.

There’s still plenty of figuring things out as we go, but so far, I’d say we’re doing alright.

One thing that has always helped me along the way is hearing other people’s tips, advice and experiences. From friends and family to coaches, books and online platforms — there’s certainly no shortage of parenting advice out there. Sometimes it’s helpful, sometimes overwhelming, and often downright confusing because everyone seems to have a different opinion or method.

But in the end, all those different perspectives help me work out what feels right for us and make my own choices as a parent.

A few years down the road, we seem to have made it through the most intense early years of parenting — knock on wood. And I thought it would be nice to start sharing some of our own experiences in return. If no one else finds them useful, perhaps my kids will one day.

And that’s how Home Guy Adventures came to be.

I’m not a stay-at-home dad. At home, we divide most things pretty much 50/50. It’s a balance that works well for us, and it’s from that perspective that I share our experiences here.

Hopefully, some of them will help, inspire or simply entertain you while you’re figuring out family life in your own way.

Enjoy the adventure!
